Abstract: A sandwich panel for blast and impact resistance comprises a top facesheet (1) having a cuboidal hollow interior, a bottom facesheet (10), and a honeycomb core (6) with hexagonal cells disposed between and bonded to the facesheets. A first foam filling (3, 4, 5) of polymeric syntactic foam layers in a graded density configuration is disposed within the hollow interior, comprising a first foam layer (3), a second foam layer (4), and a third foam layer (5) of progressively decreasing density positioned adjacent to the top facesheet (1). A second foam filling (7, 8, 9) of polymeric syntactic foam layers in a graded density configuration is disposed within the hexagonal cells. An aramid fabric (11) is bonded via an adhesive (2) to an outer surface of the top facesheet (1) oriented toward a loading side of the sandwich panel.
