Inventors include Dr. Priya Katiyar; Mr. Krushna Dharasing Jadhav; Miss. Shrutika Sanjay Wadnerkar; Mr. Sourabh Sandipan Londhe; and Miss. Pratiksha Manoj Borse.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: The present invention provides a multifunctional pH-responsive smart wound dressing comprising an anthocyanin-loaded chitosan-alginate polyelectrolyte complex. Chitosan and alginate form an ionically associated matrix that receives wound-derived fluid, manages exudate and retains an anthocyanin component capable of producing a visually observable pH-dependent colour response. The anthocyanin extract is preferably derived from Clitoria ternatea and may be incorporated at about 5% to about 30% by weight based on total dry matrix weight. The dressing further comprises a plasticizer and may optionally comprise a crosslinking or stabilizing agent. The responsive matrix may be provided as a self-supporting film or patch or as a coating on a porous gauze substrate. A preparation method includes extracting anthocyanins, separately preparing chitosan and alginate solutions, combining the extract with the alginate solution, introducing chitosan to form the polyelectrolyte complex, plasticizing, optionally stabilizing, casting or coating, and drying. The integrated dressing thereby combines visual monitoring of changes in the wound microenvironment with wound-care functionality. Accompanied Drawing [FIGS. 1-2].
