Abstract: MULTIFUNCTIONAL GRAPHENE QUANTUM DOTS PREPARATION METHOD AND APPLICATION THEREOF ABSTRACT The present invention discloses a multifunctional graphene quantum dot (GQD), a method for its preparation, and applications thereof. The method of preparation5 comprises: (a) blending citric acid as a carbon source with metformin hydrochloride as a nitrogen dopant in a weight ratio ranging from 1.5:1 to 2:1 to obtain a homogeneous solid mixture; (b) subjecting the solid mixture to microwave irradiation in a 900 W microwave oven operated at full power for a duration of five minutes; and (c) cooling the irradiated product to a temperature between 29°C and10 35°C to yield nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots. The GQDs obtained by the disclosed process exhibit enhanced multifunctionality and are suitable for diverse biomedical and analytical applications, including but not limited to targeted drug delivery, bioimaging, and sensing. The invention provides a facile, rapid, and reproducible synthetic route that integrates nitrogen doping during synthesis,15 thereby imparting improved physicochemical and functional properties to the resultant GQDs.
