MUMBAI, India, June 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641072412 A) filed by D. Kalyani on June 11, 2026, for Multifunctional Curcumin Loaded Cotton Fabric For Wound Healing And Preparation Thereof.

Inventors include D. Kalyani; and Vimala Devi M.

The application for the patent was published on June 19, 2026, under issue no. 25/2026.

Abstract: Abstract The present invention describes a multifunctional cotton fabric incorporating curcumin-loaded iron oxide nanoparticles synthesized from black rice extract (100). Curcumin was integrated with nanoparticles as a drug loaded carrier molecule coated onto cotton fabric using chitosan as a binding agent. Smface morphology analysis confirms uniform nanoparticle deposition, granular clusters of coating over cotton fibres. The coated cotton fabric shows strong coating adhesion and durability with approximately 96.40% coating . retention after repeated washing. The developed coated fabric exhibits improved mechanical strength with tensile strength of about 14 MPa and enhanced tear strength of about 6.9 N after coating. The coated fabric further demonstrates enhanced hydrophobicity with increased contact angle value of 103.87°, ultraviolet protection capability with UPF value of 22 and shows controlled drug release of 59.7% over 72 hours. The coated fabric additionally demonstrates significant antifungal activity against Candida albicans with a zone of inhibition ranging from approximately 17 mm, high biocompatibility toward HaCaT human keratinocyte cells with cell viability above 73.33% and enhanced wound healing response with 94.58% wound closure after 48 hours. Thus, the present invention provides sustainable, cost-effective and functional cotton fabric suitable for wound healing applications ..
