MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641060183 A) filed by Nandha Engineering College on May 12, 2026, for Multifunctional Anti Reflective Coating Using Al2o3/Zno With Activated Carbon For Enhanced Solar Panel Output.

Inventors include N Sumathi; G Saravanan; J Abhijith; and M Bharani Kumar.

The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a multifunctional.anti-reflective coating for solar panels comprising Zinc Oxide (ZnO). Aluminium Oxide (ALOs), and activated carbon nanoparticles. The coating is designed to reduce surface reflection losses and enhance light transmission into photovoltaic cells. ZnO functions as the primasy anti-reflective layer providing refractive index matching, while AI2O3 acts as a surface passivation layer reducing carrier recombination. Activated carbon is incorporated to improve light happing and introduce photothermal effects, thereby increasing the effective optical path length within the solar cell. The coating is fabricated using cost-effective techniques such as dip-coating or sol-gel processing and applied onto transparent solar glass or directly on the cell surface. The optimized thin- ftlm structure enables broadband anti-reflective performance and improved solar energy conversion efficiency. The invention provides a scalable, low-cost, and durable solution suitable for enhancing the output of photovoltaic modules, particularly in high-irradiance and dusty environmental conditions.
