Abstract: ABSTRACT A multi-stage electrical surge dissipation device distributes transient energy through a helically wound conductive path surrounding segmented resistive-ceramic absorbers. The helix introduces inductive spreading that delays surge current rise by 0.5– 2.4 µs, while axially and radially spaced ceramic segments sequentially absorb 4–30 J per segment, maintaining peak temperature below 200 °C. A thermo-mechanical elastomer sleeve (radial displacement 0.05–0.15 mm, stiffness 20–60 N/mm) modulates magnetic bypass coupling (mutual inductance 0.4–1.2 µH, coupling coefficient 0.15–0.42), enabling feedback-controlled current redistribution and self-restoring low-leakage standby ( 50µA). Helix radii of 4–8 mm, segment thickness 1.0–2.5 mm, and radial spacing 0.8–2.0 mm achieve residual clamping voltages 600–950 V under 5 kA, 1.2/50 µs surges. The device is robust over –20 °C to +70 °C, up to 95 % humidity, and 500 surge cycles. The architecture provides a manufacturable, physically realizable, self-compensating surge protection system for industrial, renewable, EV, and compact power-electronics applications.
