Abstract: Abstract MULTI-POINT COAXIAL THERMOCOUPLE SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR REAL-TIME ESTIMATION OF HEAT FLUX DURING FRICTION STIR WELDING The present invention relates to a multi-point coaxial thermocouple system (100) for real-time estimation of heat flux during friction stir welding. The system (100) includes a workpiece (101) having a weld line (102) and a plurality of predefined embedding locations (104) distributed on an advancing side (AS) and a retreating side (RS). A plurality of coaxial thermocouples (10), each having an outer conductor (11), an inner conductor (12), and an insulating layer (13), are embedded at the predefined locations at a controlled depth. The thermocouples (10) generate voltage signals corresponding to transient temperature variations during welding by a rotating welding tool (103). A data acquisition system (20) simultaneously records the voltage signals in real time. A processing unit (30) converts the voltage signals into temperature values using calibration data, generates temperature-versus-time profiles, and estimates heat flux as a function of time to compare heat distribution between the advancing and retreating sides.
