MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641076074 A) filed by Kalasalingam Academy Of Research And Education on June 19, 2026, for Multi-Modal Mobility System For Assistive Navigation And Safety Monitoring.
Inventors include S. Shanmugapriya; Konda Mahesh; Palagiri Chandrahas; and Gilaka Shivesh.
The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.
Abstract: The titled invention discloses a multi-modal mobility system to enhance safe, independent, and assisted movement for elderly individuals and persons with physical disabilities. The system comprises an integrated architecture that combines multiple I o control modes, including voice-based control through the voice recognition module (6); manual operation through the switch panel (5), and autonomous or assisted navigation facilitated by the navigation and mapping module (8). The ultrasonic obstacle detection sensors (7) continuously monitor the surrounding environment and provide real-time obstacle detection for collision avoidance. All user commands and sensor inputs are 15 processed by the microcontroller (1 ), which controls the operation of the DC motor (3) through the motor driver (4) to achieve safe and adaptive movement of the mobility platform (2). The buzzer (9) provides audible alerts and emergency notifications, while the power management system (10) ensures reliable power distribution and battery protection for uninterrupted operation. These components collectively provide real- 20 time environmental awareness, intelligent motion control, route guidance, and continuous safety monitoring. The system incorporates intelligent decision-making functions and an ergonomic mobility platform (2) to improve user comfort, operational responsiveness, and reliability. The invention reduces user dependency, minimizes the risk of accidents such as collisions and falls, and decreases the need for 25 continuous caregiver assistance. Consequently, the invention offers a significant advancement in assistive mobility technology and is suitable for use in hospitals, residential homes, and outdoor environments
