Abstract: Multi-Modal Energy-Autonomous Underground Mining Safety Monitoring System and Method Abstract The present invention relates to an underground mining safety monitoring system (100) and method configured for intelligent detection and prediction of hazardous underground conditions using distributed multi-modal sensing architectures. The system comprises distributed sensor nodes (101) including fiber optic sensors (110), passive electromagnetic sensors (102), MEMS-based vibration sensors (104), acoustic emission sensors (105), radar-based sensors (103), and gas sensors (106) deployed within underground mining environments. Sensor data is processed through an edge processing unit (120) comprising artificial intelligence and multi-sensor data fusion modules for identifying structural instability, gas leakage, geological anomalies, and environmental hazards. A mesh communication network (130) transmits processed data to a remote monitoring platform (150) and control room interface (160). The system further includes an energy harvesting unit (140), wearable safety devices (170), and a digital twin model (280) for predictive hazard assessment, emergency alert generation, and long-term autonomous underground safety monitoring under harsh mining conditions.
