Abstract: The present invention discloses a multi-layered architecture for automated evaluation and explainable feedback generation from handwritten scripts. The system receives handwritten answer sheets in image or PDF formats through an input acquisition layer and preprocesses the acquired documents using image enhancement operations including noise removal, skew correction, binarization, contrast enhancement, and segmentation. An OCR extraction engine recognizes handwritten characters and employs language model- assisted correction techniques to improve extraction accuracy while generating confidence scores. The extracted text undergoes normalization procedures including spelling correction, tokenization, lemmatization, and stop-word filtering. Structural analysis, semantic intelligence, and concept coverage modules evaluate response quality through contextual understanding and conceptual mapping. A hybrid weighted scoring engine generates normalized assessment scores while controlling bias. An explainable feedback generation module produces criterion-wise explanations, strengths, conceptual gaps, and improvement suggestions for transparent and reliable educational assessment.
