MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611099750 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Delhi on August 18, 2026, for Multi-Directionally Oriented Composite Laminate With Thermoplastic Polyurethane Film Interlayers For Enhanced Blunt Trauma Mitigation.
Inventors include Butola, Bhupendra Singh; Majumdar, Abhijit; and Pramanick, Rinku.
The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: Examples of composite laminates (100) are described herein. The composite laminate (100) includes a striking face region (102) having a plurality of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene unidirectional plies (112) arranged in a stacking sequence, a back face region (104) having a plurality of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene unidirectional plies (112) arranged in a stacking sequence, and a mid-thickness region (106) having a plurality of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene unidirectional plies (112) arranged in a stacking sequence, a first thermoplastic polyurethane film (108) positioned within the stacking sequence proximate the striking face region (102), and a second thermoplastic polyurethane film (110) positioned within the stacking sequence proximate the back face region (104). The first thermoplastic polyurethane film (108) and the second thermoplastic polyurethane film (110) are symmetrically positioned about a mid-plane (A1) of the composite laminate (100).
