Abstract: The invention provides a bilayer mucoadhesive buccal film containing an extract from Moringa oleifera leaves. The film comprises a mucosa-contacting layer (103) containing HPMC E15, Carbopol 934P, PEG 400, and propylene glycol, and an ethyl-cellulose backing layer (102) on the oral-cavity side. The film is prepared by solvent casting and cut into 2 cm × 2 cm units, each containing 50 mg or 100 mg of extract equivalents. The leaf extract is prepared by maceration with 70% ethanol at a 1:5 w/v ratio for 72 hours. In an aspirin-induced gastric-ulcer model, the 50 mg and 100 mg film groups showed 71.43% and 89.29% ulcer inhibition, respectively, compared with 57.74% for the tested free extract. Histopathology supported gastric mucosal protection. The multilayer architecture provides a defined platform for directional buccal delivery of Moringa oleifera extract.
