MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641110072 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on September 14, 2026, for Monolithic Symmetric Biconvex Diamond Photonic Collector For Directional Photon Extraction.

Inventors include Ummal Momeen M; and Kanisha S.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT MONOLITHIC SYMMETRIC BICONVEX DIAMOND PHOTONIC COLLECTOR FOR DIRECTIONAL PHOTON EXTRACTION A photonic collector (100) comprises a monolithic single-crystal diamond body (102) defining an equatorial plane (104) and a longitudinal axis (106) normal to the equatorial plane (104). The photonic collector (100) comprises an upper convex surface (108) and a lower convex surface (110) that are substantially identical and arranged in mirror symmetry about the equatorial plane (104), the body (102) being rotationally symmetric about the longitudinal axis (106). A colour centre (112) is disposed within the body (102) on or adjacent the longitudinal axis (106) and below the equatorial plane (104). The upper convex surface (108) and the lower convex surface (110) cooperatively redirect photons emitted by the colour centre (112), by refraction at curved diamond-air interfaces and total internal reflection within the body (102), into a directional beam (114) exiting through the upper convex surface (108).
