MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611088564 A) filed by K. R. Mangalam University on July 21, 2026, for Moisture-Activated Probiotic-Encapsulated Odour-Control Textile And Method Of Manufacture.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.
Abstract: A moisture-activatable odour-control composition, a treated textile and garment, and a method of manufacture are disclosed. Probiotic micro-organisms, in a preferred embodiment at 106 to 109 colony-forming units per gram, are microencapsulated in a matrix of sodium alginate and chitosan and applied to a textile with a bio-based binder. The alginate protects probiotic viability and hydrates to release viable probiotics upon perspiration, while the chitosan and binder bond the capsules to the fibre so the function survives washing; the released probiotics suppress odour by competitive inhibition rather than by a biocide. The composition is applied in high- perspiration zones such as underarm, inner-thigh and lower-back panels of activewear. The textile is made by microencapsulating the probiotics, applying them with the binder, pad-drying below sixty degrees and curing below one hundred degrees to preserve viability.
