Abstract: A moisture-absorbing valve attachment (100) for a ventilator catheter includes a housing configured for placement at a catheter mount of a ventilator circuit between an endotracheal tube and a ventilator circuit connector. The attachment includes a patient side connector (A) having an inlet configured to receive exhaled air from a patient, and a ventilator side connector (F) configured to connect to the ventilator circuit. A superabsorbent core (B) is disposed within the housing and configured to absorb moisture vapor from exhaled air passing through the housing. A bivalve mechanism includes moveable flaps (C) configured to direct exhaled air toward the superabsorbent core (B) during an exhalation phase and to permit passage of inhaled air from the ventilator side connector (F) toward the patient side connector (A) during an inhalation phase.
