Abstract: Modular System for Converting SMS and Residues into Enhanced Biochar This invention describes a modular system for converting agricultural residues, including spent mushroom substrate (SMS), into nutrient-enriched biochar. The system integrates solar-powered drying, dual-zone pyrolysis, and advanced post-processing to produce high-quality biochar with enhanced porosity, nutrient retention, and microbial inoculation. The solar drying chamber reduces feedstock moisture to an optimal level, while the dual-zone pyrolysis reactor operates within controlled temperature ranges (400°C–700°C) under low-oxygen conditions to ensure consistent carbonization. Volatile by-products such as syngas and bio-oil are recovered and repurposed, enhancing energy efficiency. The post-processing module optimizes biochar properties through porosity enhancement, nutrient infusion, and microbial enrichment. Emission control mechanisms ensure compliance with environmental standards, minimizing ecological impact. Scalable and portable, the system is adaptable for diverse applications, from small farms to industrial operations, addressing waste management challenges, improving soil health, and supporting sustainable agriculture through resource recovery and carbon sequestration.
