MUMBAI, India, July 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411102443 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group AG on December 24, 2024, for Modular Mounting Assembly For Affixing Battery Frame To Side Sill Structure Of Vehicle.

Inventors include Ajai Jalaja; Jinu Usha; and Caesar Gunasingh.

The application for the patent was published on July 24, 2026, under issue no. 30/2026.

Abstract: The present invention provides a modular mounting assembly (100) for affixing a battery frame (200) to a side sill structure (300) of a vehicle. The modular mounting assembly (100) includes side inserts (102) and an energy absorbing mounting member (104). Further, the energy absorbing mounting member (104) includes a central dome structure (106) and collapsible ribs (108). Further, the energy absorbing mounting member (104) is configured to absorb energy through the collapsible ribs (108) during a crash event. Further, the collapsible ribs (108) deform and crumple, facilitating movement of the battery frame (200) in transverse direction away from a crash zone. Therefore, the present invention overcomes the limitations of damage to a battery (202) by efficiently moving the battery frame (200) away from the crash zone and protecting the battery (202).
