Abstract: A lamp and a method of manufacture are disclosed. The lamp has a light source, a diffusion dome of recycled resin formed with pigmented layers and zones of variable thickness, a diffusion plate between the light source and the dome, and a base. The diffusion plate first scatters the light, and the pigment gradient and the differing optical path lengths of the variable-thickness zones then cause the transmitted light to vary smoothly, so that the plate and the structured dome cooperate to produce a gradient illumination substantially without hotspots. The dome is modular and interchangeable on the base, and a thermal arrangement keeps the resin below its softening temperature. The dome is made by sorting, shredding and heating recycled resin, infusing micro-pigments to form a gradient, multi-layer casting in a mould with variable-thickness zones, slow curing and surface frosting.
