Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a modular and scalable battery management system (BMS) (100). The BMS (100) includes a battery pack (102) with multiple daughter boards (108), each connected to a battery cell (106). The daughter boards (108) monitor voltage, current, and temperature of the battery cell (106). A controller board (104) communicates with the daughter boards (108) via a daisy-chain architecture and performs automatic address assignment using a token-passing process. Each daughter board (108) requests an address upon receiving the token and forwards it to the next, while the last board signals completion by returning an inverted token. The controller board (104) also supports automatic integration of newly added daughter boards (108), fault detection through health signals, and identification of failed boards based on missing replies. The system enables real-time monitoring, scalability, and robust protection, providing efficient management of battery pack (102) for diverse applications.
