MUMBAI, India, Aug. 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631095747 A) filed by Birla Institute Of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi on August 07, 2026, for Modified Rotary Microtome With Top-Mounted Trimming, Side Feed, And Digital Control System.
Inventors include Dr. Chanchal Kumar Mishra; Mr. Chandi Charan Singh Choudhary; Dr. Trishna Bal; and Dr. Manik Ghosh.
The application for the patent was published on August 14, 2026, under issue no. 33/2026.
Abstract: A modified rotary microtome (100) is disclosed comprising a tray-like base (110), a vertical housing (120), a specimen holding assembly (130), a blade holder assembly (140), a top-mounted trimming mechanism (150), a side-mounted feed mechanism (160), a digital control system (170), a manual thickness control mechanism (180), a mechanical complex (190), a trim-feed conjugate mechanism (200), and an IC unit (210). The trimming mechanism (150) includes a top mount wheel (153) driving a reciprocating drum (157), and the feed mechanism (160) includes a side mount wheel (163) driving a pushing base structure (166). The digital control system (170) provides a touch screen (171) and dedicated trim (173), section (174), thickness (175), and emergency lock (172) buttons. The trim-feed conjugate mechanism (200) uses linear piezoelectric actuators (202A, 202B) for high-resolution feed. The IC unit (210) coordinates hardware and software operation, while the manual thickness control mechanism (180) provides independent thickness selection.
