Inventor includes Prof. Dr. Gowrish S..
The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention relates to an MMP-8-responsive bioactive peptide hydrogel for inflammation-modulated soft-tissue repair and bone regeneration. The developed biomaterial comprises a biocompatible hydrogel-forming polymer, an MMP-8-responsive peptide component and a bioactive regenerative peptide. The MMP-8-responsive component was incorporated into the hydrogel network so that elevated MMP-8 activity associated with an inflammatory tissue environment induced controlled enzymatic remodeling of the network and enhanced release of the bioactive peptide. The bioactive peptide promoted cellular migration, extracellular matrix formation and osteogenic differentiation. The developed hydrogel exhibited suitable injectability, three-dimensional network formation, swelling, mechanical properties, cytocompatibility and sustained peptide release. MMP-8-dependent degradation and peptide release were observed under representative experimental conditions. The formulation further demonstrated enhanced cellular migration, collagen deposition, osteogenic marker expression, mineralization and tissue regeneration compared with non-responsive control systems. The invention provides an inflammation-responsive regenerative platform useful for periodontal, oral and maxillofacial tissue repair, inflammatory bone defects, soft-tissue regeneration and localized bone regeneration.
