Abstract: The present invention provides an ML-based intelligent system for identifying and preventing problematic social media usage and associated social-safety risks among higher education students. The system receives permitted behavioral and contextual information, generates temporal and behavioral features, establishes individualized behavioral baselines, and applies machine learning models to determine addiction-risk and social-risk scores. A contextual assessment mechanism evaluates behavioral deviations, persistence, confidence, and contributing factors to reduce false-positive assessments. An explainability module identifies significant risk- contributing features, while an intervention engine selects graduated preventive responses ranging from digital-well-being recommendations and counseling prompts to authorized institutional review. Privacy-preserving processing, pseudonymization, role- based access, consent validation, and audit logging are provided. Feedback from students and authorized reviewers is used for controlled model recalibration and adaptation to changing behavioral patterns.
