Abstract: ABSTRACT Mineral-Based Macro-Encapsulated Phase Change Material System Using Red Sand for Medium-Temperature Thermal Energy Storage The present invention relates to a macro-encapsulated phase change material (PCM) system for medium-temperature thermal energy storage applications. The invention comprises a paraffin wax core encapsulated within a mineral-based shell comprising Vizag red sand (Erra Matti Dibbalu) and bentonite powder, further coated with a gel coat resin layer for enhanced leakage prevention and mechanical durability. The encapsulation system is configured to withstand repeated thermal cycling without substantial leakage, crack formation, or structural degradation. Vizag red sand provides thermal stability and mechanical strength, while bentonite improves cohesion and crack resistance. The gel coat resin seals surface micro-pores and enhances impermeability. The invention provides a low-cost, sustainable, and scalable thermal energy storage solution suitable for solar thermal systems, building energy management, and industrial waste heat recovery applications.
