MUMBAI, India, Aug. 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641098700 A) filed by National Institute Of Technology, Tiruchirappalli on August 14, 2026, for Microwave Hyperthermia Applicator To Heat A Subsurface Tumour Region.

Inventors include Chakaravarthi, Geetha; and Alex, Mable.

The application for the patent was published on August 21, 2026, under issue no. 34/2026.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a microwave hyperthermia applicator (104) for delivering electromagnetic energy to heat subsurface tumour region (110) of a user. The applicator (104) includes an antenna (204) comprising a radiating patch (302) defining a plurality of annular slots configured to resonate the radiating patch (302) at an operating frequency and to radiate a tangential electrical field. A dielectric substrate (304) has a first surface connected to the radiating patch (302) and comprises a plurality of holes (308) configured to suppress lateral surface-wave propagation and direct the tangential electrical field towards a second surface. A ground plane (306) on the second surface comprises a plurality of ground slots configured to introduce inductive and capacitive loading to set the operating frequency. A fluid bolus (210) of adjustable thickness disposed adjacent the antenna (204) comprises a dielectric liquid configured to couple the tangential electrical field into the subsurface tumour region (110).
