Abstract: The present invention relates to a microwave-assisted method for N-acetylation of aromatic amines. The method comprises combining an aromatic amine substrate with copper acetate and azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) in 1,2-dichloroethane (DCE) solvent, wherein the copper acetate serves as both the acetylating reagent and catalyst. The reaction mixture is subjected to microwave irradiation to produce a target aromatic amide via a radical pathway. The resulting product is diluted with ethyl acetate and isolated by column chromatography. The method successfully acetylates a diverse range of aromatic amine substrates, including halogen-substituted amines, disubstituted and sterically hindered amines, and heteroaromatic amines such as 2-aminobenzothiazole, 3-aminoquinoline, and 8-aminoquinoline. The protocol provides a simple, economical, and environmentally friendly approach for aromatic amide synthesis without requiring hazardous reagents, inert atmospheres, or complex catalytic systems.
