Abstract: ABSTRACT MICROWAVE-ASSISTED DEEP EUTECTIC SOLVENT PROCESS AND COMPOSITION FOR SELECTIVE EXTRACTION OF PHYTOCHEMICALS FROM TINOSPORA CORDIFOLIA The present invention relates to a process for extraction of phytochemicals from Tinospora cordifolia. The process comprises preparing a deep eutectic solvent composition (100) including choline chloride (102) and lactic acid (104) in a molar ratio of 1:1 to 1:3, preferably 1:2, and incorporating water (106) in an amount of 30–50% (v/v) to reduce viscosity and enhance diffusivity. Plant material is combined with the composition (100) in a ratio of 1:5 to 1:20 (w/v) and subjected to microwave-assisted extraction at 100–800 W for 1–20 minutes. The process enables simultaneous extraction of alkaloids and phenolic compounds, including berberine, palmatine, caffeic acid, and p-coumaric acid, with enhanced mass transfer, reduced co-extraction of bitter constituents, and preservation of thermolabile phytochemicals, while being free from organic solvents, thereby yielding an extract enriched in bioactive compounds.
