MUMBAI, India, Aug. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631053008 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology on April 25, 2026, for Microfluidic System For Generation Of Microgels Including 3d Co-Culture And Microphysical Applications.
Inventors include Amlan Ashish; and Dr. Gorachand Dutta.
The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT Title of Invention: MICROFLUIDIC SYSTEM FOR GENERATION OF MICROGELS INCLUDING 3D CO- CULTURE AND MICROPHYSICAL APPLICATIONS A DLP-printed microfluidic device was printed using custom resin by selecting various printing parameters such as layer height 40µm, base exposure time 5 s, subsequent layer exposure time 1.2s, channel exposure time 0.8s, UV light intensity 60%. The device comprises at least a Y shaped operatively connected inner microchannels having a cross-junction for droplet generation which is operatively connected to a wider cross-sectional outer channel beyond said cross-junction; each said microchannel inlets and outlets adapted for operative to tubing fittings for feed into of microgel source actives and output the generated microgel from the outer channel. The system enables reliable generation of Janus microconstructs using marine based biomaterial such as fucoidan along with alginate for advanced 3D co-culture applications of HepG2 cells and endothelial cells to mimic the native hepato-endothelial interface in liver sinusoids. Viability of encapsulated cells within the microgels over 72h of co-culture is ~95% . Fig. No. 1
