Abstract: ABSTRACT Microcontroller-Based Automated Underground Cable Fault Detection and Distance Localization System The present invention relates to a microcontroller-based automated underground cable fault detection and distance localization system (100) configured to detect and locate a fault condition (102) in an underground cable (101). The system comprises a sensing circuit (103), microcontroller unit (104), LCD display (105), relay module (106), power supply (107), calibration/resistance-to-distance mapping memory (108), and switches/fault selection circuit (109). The sensing circuit (103) continuously obtains voltage or resistance-related electrical measurements from the underground cable (101). The microcontroller unit (104) detects an abnormal electrical variation and calculates an estimated fault distance using a resistance-to-distance relationship. The calculated distance is displayed in real time through the LCD display (105), while the relay module (106) provides fault control or simulation. In an enhanced implementation, calibrated electrical measurements corresponding to predetermined cable distances are stored in the memory (108) and used to improve distance estimation accuracy. The system facilitates rapid fault localization and reduced maintenance effort in underground power distribution networks. Figure-1
