Abstract: Microbial Fuel Cell-Powered Self-Sustaining LED Lantern for Off-Grid Lighting This invention describes a self-sustaining microbial fuel cell-powered LED lantern that utilizes biodegradable organic waste to generate continuous off-grid illumination. The system incorporates a microbial fuel cell (MFC) unit, wherein electroactive bacteria metabolize organic substrates, facilitating bio-electrochemical energy conversion. The generated electrical power is regulated through a power management circuit, ensuring stable voltage output to an LED lighting module. A capacitor-based energy storage system accumulates surplus energy, enabling uninterrupted illumination during metabolic fluctuations. The lantern features adjustable brightness settings to optimize power efficiency. Designed for rural electrification, emergency relief, and remote off-grid applications, the invention eliminates reliance on conventional batteries or fossil fuels, reducing environmental impact and maintenance costs. The system’s modular and scalable architecture allows for enhanced energy output and extended operational lifespan, providing a sustainable, eco- friendly, and autonomous lighting solution for energy-deprived regions.
