Abstract: Abstract: A digital twin system and method for urban metro transit networks is disclosed, comprising a modular, vendor-agnostic architecture that constructs a time- parameterized directed graph model G(t)=(V,E,W(t)) from General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) static and real-time data, wherein vertices represent stations, edges represent connectivity, and dynamic weights encode temporal operational states including travel time, headway, and disruptions. The system includes a real-time cascade delay propagation engine based on max-plus algebra and graph traversal to model delay ripple effects across interconnected lines, an event-triggered surge modelling module that estimates passenger load concentration using graph-distance decay from demand epicentres, and a maintenance optimization subsystem that computes a detour-weighted Maintenance Impact Score (MIS) to identify low-disruption, operationally efficient maintenance windows. An explainable large language model (LLM) advisory layer translates model outputs into traceable, context-aware recommendations grounded in deterministic computations for control room decision support. All components are logically decoupled and interoperable through standardized interfaces, enabling independent module operation, fault tolerance, and graceful degradation, while supporting real-time, scalable deployment and consistent applicability across structurally diverse metro networks.
