Abstract: A method and apparatus for video coding are disclosed. According to this method, input data associated with a current block is received, wherein the input data comprises pixel data to be encoded at an encoder side or data associated with the current block to be decoded at a decoder side. Inheritance information is obtained from a merge candidate list or from at least one merge candidate, wherein the inheritance information is according to histogram or the inheritance information comprises at least one intra prediction mode, whether to apply fusion or not, or both. Target prediction is generated for the current block by using the inheritance information. The current block is encoded or decoded by using the target prediction.
