MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441051446 A) filed by Tejas Networks; and Centre Of Excellence In Wireless Technology on July 04, 2024, for Methods And Apparatus For Performing Ue Initiated Beam Report For Updating Tci States.

Inventors include Abhay Mohan Mahadevathupanthal Variyam; Pardhasarathy Jyothi; Dhivagar Baskaran; and Jeniston Deviraj Klutto Milleth.

The application for the patent was published on July 10, 2026, under issue no. 28/2026.

Abstract: METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR PERFORMING UE INITIATED BEAM REPORT FOR UPDATING TCI STATES The present invention proposes techniques to report parameters that facilitate updates for active and configured Transmission Configuration Indicator (TCI) states for user equipment (UE)- initiated beam management in 5G new-radio (NR) communication networks. The method includes reporting resource indicators for active and configured TCI state beams, optionally incorporating beam quality metrics from Layer 1 (L1) measurements. The present invention also proposes three reporting formats such as a first format, a second format both use two channel uplink structure and finally a third format uses a new three channel reporting structure, with a new 1-bit channel indicating the need to transmit a report, a second channel for transmitting the relative quality of reported beams relative to the current beams, and a third channel for transmitting the actual report. The channels that carry these reports may be preconfigured or dynamically allocated, enhancing resource efficiency and ensuring reliable beam updates for various network configurations.
