The method comprises transmitting a message of registration request to a first network function for mobility management, wherein the message of initial registration request comprises first information indicating one or more modes of non-access 10 stratum (NAS) supported by the terminal device; in response to the registration request, receiving a message of registration response from the first network function, wherein the message of registration response comprises second information indicating an accepted mode of NAS security and third information indicating modes of NAS supported by a plurality of network functions; and establishing a 15 NAS connection with a second network function based on the accepted mode of NAS security.
