MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621086764 A) filed by Gigaton Research Private Limited on July 15, 2026, for Method Of Scalable Production Of Pristine Nano-Graphene Material.

Inventor includes Arvind Kumar.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a scalable method for producing pristine nano-graphene material through a multi-stage process comprising non-oxidative intercalation of graphite, controlled exfoliation, and liquid-phase exfoliation. Graphite is intercalated with a non-oxidizing organic sulfonic acid comprising p-toluenesulfonic acid (PTSA) in the presence of water to form a graphite intercalated compound having increased interlayer spacing. The graphite intercalated compound is subjected to thermal exfoliation, microwave exfoliation, or a combination thereof under an inert atmosphere to produce expanded graphite, which is fragmented to obtain graphene nanoplatelets. The graphene nanoplatelets are subsequently subjected to liquid-phase exfoliation in a solvent system comprising N,N-dimethylformamide and N- methyl-2-pyrrolidone, optionally with an oil component, to produce few-layer graphene. The invention further provides pristine nano-graphene material comprising predominantly sp²-hybridized carbon, reduced oxidation-induced structural defects, and dispersibility in organic solvents.
