Abstract: This method of manufacturing a hollow molded body (1), which includes forming the hollow molded body (1) by joining a first metal member (2) having a first end surface (2s) and a second metal member (3) having a second end surface (3s) using a friction stir joint, the method includes: a process (S11) of causing the first end surface (2s) of the first metal member (2) and the second end surface (3s) of the second metal member (3) to abut each other; a process (S12) of causing a tool for a friction stir joint (T) to abut first surfaces (2f, 3f) facing one side (Dt1) of the first metal member (2) and the second metal member (3) in a plate thickness direction (Dt) against a butt joint (5) between the first end surface (2s) and the second end surface (3s); and a process (S13) of rotating the tool (T), stirring a material that forms the first metal member (2) and the second metal member (3) of the butt joint (5), forming a friction stir joint portion (51) from the first surfaces (2f, 3f) of the first metal member (2) and the second metal member (3) to a predetermined depth in the plate thickness direction (Dt), and forming a non-joint part (52) of the first metal member (2) and the second metal member (3) on the other side (Dt2) with respect to the friction stir joint portion (51) in the plate thickness direction (Dt).
