MUMBAI, India, Aug. 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641097733 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Science on August 12, 2026, for Method Of Extracting Iron As Iron Complexes From Mixed-Ion Solutions And Iron-Based Catalysts Derived Therefrom.
Inventors include Kanhai Kumar; and Prof. Karuna Kar Nanda.
The application for the patent was published on August 21, 2026, under issue no. 34/2026.
Abstract: A method of extracting iron from a secondary iron source is disclosed. A mixed-ion solution is obtained from the secondary iron source and contains iron along with one or more additional ions. The method (100) comprises contacting the mixed-ion solution with a polyphenol compound to form an iron-polyphenol complex and precipitating at least a portion of the iron from the mixed-ion solution as the iron-polyphenol complex. Iron-polyphenol complexes and iron-containing catalysts derived therefrom are also disclosed. The disclosed method enables selective recovery of iron from the secondary iron source and direct conversion of the recovered iron into a catalyst precursor for the preparation of iron-based catalysts, without first recovering the iron as metallic iron or iron salts.
