Abstract: The invention provides a method and system to create a deterministic virtual model of an updatable Programmable Scheme Logic (PSL) module of a transformer protection Intelligent Electronic Device (IED). The process starts with the extraction of a PSL configuration from a physical relay and its translation into an intermediate deterministic representation using structured Python classes. The classes are responsible for input-output mapping, replication of Boolean logic gates, retention of latches and modeling of discrete-time timers, which together replicate the complete logic of the physical PSL in software. The method supports real-time configurability through the use of DeepDiff-based comparison and in-place neutralization to detect user changes to the PSL configuration. These are then updated and seamlessly integrated into the existing execution framework. The logic is replicated and executed with bounded real-time scheduling in a software-defined virtual IED environment, maintaining millisecond-level determinism and timing coordination behavior of the physical relay. The invention is tested against a physical transformer protection relay using a hardware-in-the-loop testbed, showing equivalence under actual fault conditions. The invention allows hardware- agnostic deployment of transformer protection logic on cloud, edge and virtualized substation environments, while maintaining the deterministic behavior necessary for protection.
