Abstract: ABSTRACT METHOD FOR SYNTHESIZING HYDROPHILIC POLYURETHANE POWDER AND COMPOSITE BEADS FOR IODINE ADSORPTION AND PRODUCTS THEREOF The present invention discloses a bio-based hydrophilic polyurethane powder (HP-PUP) and composite beads synthesised from a non-edible tung-oil-derived fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) polyol and methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) via a catalyst-free, ambient-temperature, non-solvent phase- separation process. The HP-PUP/poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) composite beads of diameter 3 – 5 mm fabricated by non-solvent induced phase separation (NIPS). Both materials are regenerable by methanol washing and demonstrate stable performance over multiple adsorption–desorption cycles. The invention provides a sustainable, scalable, and cost-effective sorbent platform for nuclear waste treatment, environmental iodine remediation, and continuous-flow industrial filtration applications, representing the bio-based polyurethane as a high-performance multiphase iodine adsorbent.
