Abstract: Provided herein is a method for selecting a site for carbon dioxide sequestration. The method comprises obtaining a sample from a geological location. The method further comprises performing an elemental analysis on the samples to determine concentration of inorganic ions, labile ions and inhibitor ions. Further the method comprises determining a site for carbon dioxide sequestration based on a determination of relative abundance of the inorganic ions, labile ions and inhibitor ions in the obtained sample.
