MUMBAI, India, Aug. 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541011440 A) filed by Central Silk Board on February 11, 2025, for Method For Rapid Detection Of Pesticide Contamination In Sericultural Fields Using Paper Strips.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a rapid method for detecting pesticide contamination in sericultural fields. The method (100) involves preparing a paper strip coated with acetylcholinesterase (AChE) enzyme, which is exposed to a test sample from soil, water, or mulberry leaves suspected of pesticide residues. Indoxyl acetate, a substrate for AChE, is applied to the strip. If the enzyme remains active, it reacts with the substrate, resulting in a visible color change, indicating the absence of pesticides. In contrast, a lack of color change confirms pesticide inhibition of the enzyme, indicating contamination. The method (100) offers an easy, cost-effective, and field-friendly approach for the detection of pesticide residues, ensuring the safety and health of sericulture environments and supporting sustainable agricultural practices.
