Abstract: ABSTRACT Method for Quantifying Alcohols in Gasoline through Mass-Fraction Dilution vis-à-vis Turbidity The present invention provides a method for quantifying alcohol concentration in gasoline or petroleum products by utilizing a turbidity-sensitive solution. This solution contains particles or colloidal substances that exhibit a measurable turbidity shift when exposed to alcohol, due to changes in light scattering caused by alcohol’s interaction with the particles, more specifically due to mass fraction of alcohol causing dilution of turbidity-sensitive solution solution to reduce scattering. The turbidity shift, measured in optical units such as NTU or TU, correlates directly with the alcohol concentration in the sample. The method involves mixing a fixed volume of gasoline with the turbidity-sensitive solution, observing the turbidity before and after the addition of the sample. A calibration curve, derived by adding known alcohol volumes and plotting turbidity shifts against alcohol concentrations, allows for the precise determination of alcohol content in the gasoline. The method is fast, non-destructive, and suitable for real-time analysis, providing a cost-effective alternative to traditional laboratory techniques.
