Abstract: ABSTRACT Method for Quantifying Alcohols in Gasoline through Mass-Fraction Dilution vis-à-vis pH This invention describes a method for quantifying alcohol concentration in gasoline or petroleum products containing alcohol, using a pH-sensitive solution that exhibits a measurable pH shift upon alcohol interaction. The pH- sensitive solution that changes pH in response to alcohol through mass fraction of ethanol transferred from gasoline into pH-sensitive solution, with shifts in pH occurring due to alcohol's influence on hydrogen or hydroxide ions in the solution. The solution is typically prepared using acid or base combined with a buffer that allows for precise alcohol quantification. A fixed volume of gasoline is mixed with the solution, and the pH is measured before and after addition, enabling determination of alcohol concentration from the resulting pH change. The pH shift is linear with respect to alcohol concentration, and a calibration curve correlates known alcohol concentrations with observed pH changes. The method utilizes a pH range between 0 - 14 with measurements taken using a pH meter or indicator paper to calculate alcohol concentration.
