MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641024535 A) filed by Anna University, Chennai on March 02, 2026, for Method For Producing Reduced Graphene Oxide From Lignite Humic Acid.

Abstract: Title: Method for Producing Reduced Graphene Oxide from Lignite Humic Acid The present invention provides a single-step chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method for producing high-performance reduced graphene oxide (rGO) from a sustainable lignite- derived byproduct, potassium humate. The process comprises demineralizing the potassium humate precursor with 10 wt% hydrochloric acid for 24 hours to leach out inorganic impurities, washing the mixture with water until reaching a neutral pH, and thermally dehydrating the neutralized material. The dried powder undergoes single-step thermal carbonization inside a tubular furnace at 900°C under a continuous inert Argon atmosphere to produce Lignite Humic Acid-derived Reduced Graphene Oxide (LHA-rGO). The resulting LHA-rGO exhibits a thin-layered, porous network structure with a high specific surface area. When utilized as an active material in supercapacitor electrodes, it demonstrates an enhanced specific capacitance of 568 F/g at 1 A/g in a 1M H2SO4electrolyte.
