MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531029190 A) filed by Tata Steel Limited on March 27, 2025, for Method For Producing Biochar Briquettes For Steel Making Process.

Inventors include Prakash Gupta; Arunava Sengupta; Shrey Agrawal; Ashish Joshi; Tapas Kumar Roy; and Siddhartha Misra.

The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.

Abstract: A method (100) for producing biochar briquettes for steel making process is disclosed. The method (100) includes mixing (101), a carbonaceous material with steel chips, to form a mixture. The method (100) further includes agglomerating (102) the mixture by binding with a first binder and a second binder in a defined ratio. The first binder is dextrin and the second binder is bentonite. The method (100) further includes briquetting (103) the agglomerated mixture into briquettes of predefined size. The method (100) further includes curing (104) the briquettes at predefined temperature, for a predefined time period. The cured briquettes exhibit cold crushing strength (CCS) of at least 25 kg/briquettes. [Fig. 1 is a representative figure]
