Abstract: A method for producing and displaying 3D ultrasound images, a method for needle insertion using same and equipment for the implementation of these methods. The invention relates to an assisted and interactive method for producing and displaying 3D ultrasound images, by controlled acquisition and processing of 2D images acquired by way of a 2D ultrasound probe (1) that can be moved on a living subject (S) by a robotic arm (2), or by a practitioner with the assistance of a robotic arm (2), in particular before and during a procedure for inserting a needle (3) into said subject (S), the procedure being performed, for example, by means of or with the assistance of another robotic arm (4) equipped with a needle holder (8). The method is used during a phase of planning the insertion, during a re-planning phase just before insertion, and during the insertion, and displays relevant volumes in a manner adapted to the different phases, while also showing the trajectory of the needle (3), the fragile structures (OVT) and the target (C).
