The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.

Abstract: A method for preparing reduced MXene quantum dots (r-MQDs) is provided. The method includes etching a MAX phase material to obtain MXene nanosheets, mixing the MXene nanosheets with o-phenylenediamine and L-methionine to form a precursor solution, subjecting the precursor solution to hydrothermal treatment to synthesize MXene quantum dots (MQDs), purifying the synthesized MQDs, contacting the purified MQDs with sodium borohydride to reduce surface functional groups of the MQDs and thereby obtain reduced MXene quantum dots (r-MQDs), purifying the reduced MXene quantum dots, and obtaining the purified reduced MXene quantum dots having surface chemistry modified by reduction of the surface functional groups. The MQDs shows selective fluorescence quenching towards As3+ and Cu2+ ions and the reduced MXene quantum dots exhibit fluorescence characteristics different from those of the MXene quantum dots and selectively undergo fluorescence quenching in the presence of silver ions.
