MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641073996 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai on June 15, 2026, for Method For Preparing Photocatalytic Nanocomposite Hydrogel For Degradation Of Industrial Dyes And Product Thereof.

Inventors include Mrutyunjay Panigrahi; and Hassan Mahmoodi Esfanddarani.

The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.

Abstract: A method for preparing a photocatalytic nanocomposite hydrogel for degradation of industrial dyes and a product thereof is provided. The method involves synthesis of reduced graphene oxide from waste dry-cell batteries and biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles using Asparagus officinalis extract, followed by formation of an rGO-Ag nanocomposite. Further, the rGO-Ag nanocomposite is incorporated into a dual-crosslinked polyvinyl alcohol/chitosan hydrogel matrix to obtain a sunlight-responsive photocatalytic material for degradation of industrial dyes from wastewater. The photocatalytic nanocomposite hydrogel includes reduced graphene oxide-silver (rGO- Ag) nanocomposite embedded within a polyvinyl alcohol/chitosan (PVA/CS) hydrogel matrix. The photocatalytic nanocomposite hydrogel exhibits enhanced photocatalytic degradation of industrial dyes including Methylene Blue and Congo Red under sunlight. The disclosure provides an eco-friendly, reusable, cost-effective, and sustainable material for industrial wastewater treatment applications.
