MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541103233 A) filed by Enercell Materials Technology Private Limited on October 27, 2025, for Method For Preparing Olivine Phosphate Cathode Active Materials And Related Methods.

Inventors include Dr. Vasu Shanmugam; Naveen Sankar J; Dr. Ravi Gautam; Dr. Sasikala Natarajan; and Manamnath Tiwari.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: A method (100) produces a single-phase carbon-coated olivine phosphate cathode active material comprising LiFePO4 or LiMn1-xFexPO4, where x is 0 to 1.0. The method (100) includes combining (102) lithium, iron, phosphate, and carbon sources and, in embodiments, a manganese source, wet ball milling (104) in water, drying (106), and pre-calcining (108) under inert gas. The precursor undergoes a two-step calcination (110) in hydrogen-free nitrogen or argon. A nucleation step (112) forms a single-phase olivine intermediate with Fe2+, and a crystallization and densification step (114) pyrolyzes the carbon source in situ to form a conductive carbon coating on primary particles. After cooling (116), the material comprises a Pnma olivine core, hierarchical particles, and a composition-dependent tap density of 0.534 to 1.4 g/cc. The material is suitable for lithium-ion battery cathodes in electric vehicles or stationary energy storage.
