MUMBAI, India, Aug. 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641092915 A) filed by Kalasalingam Academy Of Research And Education on July 31, 2026, for Method For Pre-Replacement Estimation Of Energy Savings In Electric Motors Driving Affinity-Law- Based Loads.
Inventor includes V. Prakash.
The application for the patent was published on August 14, 2026, under issue no. 33/2026.
Abstract: The titled invention discloses a method for pre-replacement estimation of energy 5 savings in electric motors driving affinity-law-based loads, such as fans and centrifugal pumps. The method comprises an existing motor-load operating parameter determination (1), a load characteristic constant derivation (2), a replacement motor operating speed estimation (3), a torque adequacy verification (4), a mechanical output and electrical input power estimation (5), an energy savings or losses 10 estimation (6), an economic feasibility assessment (7), and a replacement' decision generation (8). The method analytically determines the operating point of a replacement energy-efficient motor by integrating motor slip characteristics with affinity-law-based load behavior under fixed-frequency operation. The estimated energy consumption of the replacement motor is compared with that of the existing 15 motor to predict positive, zero, or negative energy savings before physical replacement. The invention enables reliable pre-installation energy estimation, supports economic feasibility assessment, eliminates trial-based motor replacement, and improves decision-making for industrial motor-driven systems.
