Abstract: The invention relates to a method for characterising a reflecting surface (4) that is the subject of imaging by a vehicle located at a distance from the reflecting surface (4) and which collects the echo of waves emitted by the vehicle towards the reflecting surface (4), wherein the transmission and reception of the waves are carried out using a set of transmitting (1E) and receiving antennas having a known transmission gain profile. The method comprises searching, in the measured intensities, for at least one extremum and, by identifying the at least one extremum with a local extremum of the gain profile of the set of antennas, locating the corresponding point in the image.
